Literature seminar: Do we or do we not need teleology in education? (OBS! changed subject).
- Date: 09 November, 12:00–13:00
- Location: Evolutionsbiologiskt centrum Sal 4
- Organiser: TUR - teknisk-naturvtenskapliga fakultetens universitetspedagogiska råd
- Contact person: Brita Svensson
In the textbooks we use in our teaching we can find statements such as “Each group of valence electrons around a central atom is located as far away as possible from others in order to minimize repulsions” or we may in class say “Plants turn towards the sun to receive more light”. In this seminar we will discuss a paper by Vicente Talanquer published in 2007. He argues that teleological explanations as the ones above may have a practical pedagogical value. Do we agree? Let’s meet and discuss!
