Abstract: Very roughly speaking majorization inequalities arise in situations where a quantity increases as some of parameters become more ``evenly spread out''. The study of this phenomenon has diverse origins with the idea of being ``evenly spread'' turning out to have a number of equivalent characterisations, some a bit surprising. We will look at a few of these characterisations and their consequences, including one example where the proof of a result used in the speakers research was greatly simplified.
