Hugo Valentin open lecture series: Combatting Language Endangerment and Death Language activism and New Speakers
Robert Borges is a post-doctoral researcher at the Hugo Valentin Centre, Uppsala University. His main research interests fall at the intersection of contact linguistics, multilingualism, and language typology. During his PhD (2009–2014) research, Dr Borges conducted a field-based investigation of language contact and multilingualism among speakers several languages in Suriname. Since his PhD, he has been researching indigenous Mesoamerican, West-African, and European minority languages. He began his research project “The new speakers of Wymysorys: the reconstitution of the local language and sociolinguistic identity in Wilamowice” at the Hugo Valentin Centre in July 2017.
