Peter Bartlett is Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust Professor of Mental Health Law, in the Institute of Mental Health and School of Law at the University of Nottingham. 
He has published widely in mental health and mental disability law, including (with O Lewis and O Thorold) Mental Disability and the European Convention on Human Rights (Martinus Nijhoff, 2007) and (with Ralph Sandland) Mental Health Law:  Policy and Practice, currently in its 4th edition (Oxford University Press, 2014).  He has served as a Council of Europe expert on mental disability law in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Armenia, and Serbia, and with the WHO in Lesotho.
For six years (four as chair) he was on the board of the Mental Disability
Advocacy Centre (MDAC) (now Validity).  He was expert advisor to the House of Lords ad hoc scrutiny committee on the implementation of the (English) Mental Capacity Act in 2013-14.
