Pharmacometrics to improve clinical benefit assessment in oncology
The high attrition rate in oncology drug development calls for new approaches that would increase the understanding of drugs’ efficacy and safety profiles. This thesis focuses on the development of pharmacometric models to characterize and quantify the relationships between drug exposure, circulating and imaging biomarkers, adverse effects, overall survival, and patient-reported outcomes.

Population genetic history and patterns of admixture: Examples from northeastern and southern Africa
The origin of humans lies in Africa, as has been shown by archaeology, paleontology and genetics. Here, we can find the largest genetic diversity and the deepest split among human populations. In this thesis, I applied population genomic methods to investigate different aspects of the demographic history of Africa, specifically northeast and southern Africa.
Closing the Gap: How an Adaptive Behavioral Based Program on a Tablet Can Help Low Performing Children Catch Up in Math: a Randomized Placebo Controlled Study
The aim of the present thesis was to investigate the effect, using a randomized placebo controlled design, of additional adaptive, behavioral based, math training on a tablet on low performing second graders.
On assessment methods related to pain in dogs with osteoarthritis
There is a need of valid and reliable assessment methods that are clinically applicable in canine rehabilitation practice. The aim of this thesis was to psychometrically evaluate measurement properties in assessment methods related to pain in naturally occurring canine osteoarthritis.
The emergence of routine enforcement of international investment law: Effects on investment protection and development
This dissertation explores how the enforcement of international investment law became so powerful. It does so by tracing the different legal developments that have enabled the strength of the present regime. In this respect, the two aims of providing investment protection and that of fostering economic development are examined.

TGFβ and LXR signaling in hepatocellular carcinoma
This thesis is on Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), one of the most prevalent cancer types in the Western world and in the Asia-pacific regions.
Health-related Internet use and screening for emotional distress in people with cancer
The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate the preferences and incentives for using Internet-delivered support among people with cancer and to develop and test a generic questionnaire measuring health-related Internet use, the Health Online Support Questionnaire (HOSQ).
Collaboration in practice: A multiple case study on collaboration between small enterprises and university researchers
University-industry collaborations (UICs) have been hailed as key for Sweden's innovativeness and economic growth. Similarly, building research and innovation policies for the promotion of collaboration between universities and industry have become a cornerstone for many other European countries.
Culture-independent methods and high-throughput sequencing applied to evolutionary microbial genomics
Culture-independent methods allow us to better understand the diversity of microorganisms on earth. By omitting the culturing step, we can gain access to species previously out of our reach. To better capture and understand the diversity of microorganisms, we have developed an alternative to 16S amplicon sequencing.
