Neurosurgery - Per Enblad
Neurosurgery was established in Uppsala 1963. Tre research areas are: 1) Neurotrauma, neurovascular disorders and neurointensive care, 2) Skull base surgery and brain tumours, 3) Spinal disorders 4) Functional and stereotactic neurosurgery 5) Pediatric neurosurgery and 6) Translational neurosurgery. The research of human acute brain injury in the neurointensive care unit is most prominent and will be the focus of the seminar.

Transplantation and regenerative medicine - Per-Ola Carlsson
We combine experimental and clinical research to develop new treatment strategies for type 1 diabetes. Embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells are used for the generation of new human insulin-producing cells, which presently are tested in experimental settings. Clinical research activities include investigator-initiated phase 1/2 trials with mesenchymal stem cells, produced as ATMP, and new drug candidates such as GABA, with the ultimate aims to prevent type 1 diabetes and regenerate pancreatic beta-cells.
