27 November, 13:00-15:00, Hörsal 2, Lecture I, Towards a general theory of sensemaking in organizations: Insights from existential phenomenology
The theory of sensemaking introduced by Karl Weick has had a strong influence on management research in general, and in particular on our understanding of the workings of organizations. Hari Tsoukas has recently criticized and elaborated the concept of sensemaking drawing upon symbolic interactionism (e.g. in Dionysiou and Tsoukas, 2013; Sandberg and Tsoukas, 2015). In this lecture, he articulates and furthers his arguments from the vantage point of existential phenomenology.
28 November, 13:00-15:00, Hörsal 3, Lecture II, Philosophical organization theory: Why and how philosophy matters to organization theory
Throughout his research, Hari Tsoukas has used philosophy as an inspiration for theorizing about management and organizations. The relationship between philosophy and organization theory is also the theme of his forthcoming book Philosophical Organization Theory (Oxford University Press, forthcoming). This lecture will preview contents from the book and rationales provided for bringing in philosophy to organization studies.
