IRES invites you to a discussion of Zakhar Ishov’s (IRES, Uppsala University) book manuscript “Found in Translation: The English Poet Joseph Brodsky” (in review)
This study examines one of the most consistently misunderstood major poetry translation projects of the twentieth century: the exiled Russian poet Joseph Brodsky’s translation of his own Russian poems into “new originals” in English. The book reveals the little-discussed connection between translation and politics behind Brodsky’s unorthodox project.
Presenter: – Zakhar Ishov is a Postdoctoral Researcher at IRES Institute for Russian and Eurasian Studies, Uppsala University
Discussant: – Barry Scherr, a distinguished Professor of Russian Literature at Dartmouth College, Hanover, New Hampshire, USA.
Chair – James Stotts, a poet from Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
We look forward to seeing you!
