Applying for PhD studies
Before you complete and send in your application, you should contact the director of studies for PhD study programmes, professor or other subject representative at the relevant department to learn more about the research within the subject area you are interested in. The departments also have information about on-going research and PhD thesis projects.
The application consists of the following parts:
- A complete application form for admission.
- A list of your qualifications/CV accompanied by an extract of the population register and, where appropriate, upper secondary school certificate showing your general and specific eligibility for PhD studies at a faculty of languages. Where appropriate, you should also attach a copy of your degree certificate.
- Bachelor’s degree paper and Master’s degree paper and, where appropriate, degree project.
- A thesis plan of 3–5 pages.
The application documents should be sent to the University via a web form provided in all online jobs and vacancies announcements.
Please note that we are not able to return your application documents.
The departments decide when to announce PhD studentships.
When your application arrives at the University, it will be entered in the journal by the registrar and forwarded to the relevant department. The supervisors within the various PhD subject areas go through the applications and rank the applicants. Following consultation among the supervisors, the head of each department decides on admission.
